COMPARATIVE ONCOLOGY PROGRAM

The Center for Cancer Research (CCR), in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for a Senior Scientist position in the Comparative Oncology Program located within the Molecular Imaging Program.  Highly qualified candidates will have a strong background and experience in comparative oncology and molecular imaging research, with an emphasis on cancer drug and imaging agent development through the design and execution of clinical trials involving tumor-bearing pet dogs. The successful candidate will direct an independent translational research program focused on naturally-occurring canine cancers, including a bench laboratory effort and developing clinical protocols in canine patients on the Bethesda campus.  In addition, responsibilities include overseeing Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC), a multicenter veterinary academic consortium to carry out clinical trials in association a network of veterinary schools.  The successful candidate will receive stable funding to support his/her translational research program, including office space, staff and clinical research infrastructure. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments.

Who We Are

The Comparative Oncology Program conducts clinical and basic research designed to develop better methods for detection and therapy of canine patients with a variety of solid and liquid tumors. Its primary focus is the study of naturally-occurring canine cancers to facilitate the drug and imaging agent development process for human cancers. The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is an intramural research component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Eligibility

Applicants must hold a DVM or DVM-PhD, be board certified in veterinary medical oncology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM); hold a license in good standing to practice veterinary medicine, and have experience in the conception, design and execution of multicenter comparative oncology and molecular imaging clinical trials. Highly qualified candidates will have demonstrated ability: (1) to develop and conduct high-quality clinical and translational multicenter comparative oncology research (2) design and test novel molecular imaging agents as biomarkers for drug development and testing and (3) to publish such work in peer-reviewed scientific or medical journals and present it at scientific meetings.
