Job Details

School of Mathematics and Physics

The Astrophysics Group at the University of Queensland is rapidly expanding, with two new astrophysicists recruited in 2018, and four postdoctoral fellows to be employed over the next five years as part of Professor Tamara Davis' Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship (of which this position is one).  This will further enhance and expand upon our existing research strengths in theoretical cosmology, observational cosmology, and galaxy evolution.

The role

We seek to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to work on cosmology with the Dark Energy Survey (DES) as part of Professor Tamara Davis' ARC Laureate Fellowship. We are interested in candidates from a diverse range of fields, including cosmology with type Ia supernovae, large-scale structure, baryon acoustic oscillations, weak gravitational lensing, strong gravitational lensing, gravitational waves, or other topic related to cosmology.

The candidate will have access to the substantial resources of the ARC Laureate Fellowship, and would be invited to help drive the direction of the group, including selection and co-supervision of PhD students.

The person

The appointee will have a demonstrated record of performing innovative, high-quality research, and will have a vision for developing and leading their own research. They will ideally have experience in doing cosmology with large galaxy surveys (spectroscopic or photometric).  They should have an understanding of what can be done with DES data and how they would like to contribute.

We are simultaneously advertising for a research fellow to work with the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI).  Please let us know if you would be interested in being considered for both positions.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion and actively encourages applications from those who bring diversity to the University. Please refer to the University's Diversity and Inclusion webpage (https://staff.uq.edu.au/information-and-services/human-resources/diversity) for further information and points of contact if you require additional support.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic level A or B. The remuneration package will be in the range Level A $66,283 to $89,285 p.a., Level B $93,985 to $111,607 p.a, plus employer superannuation contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range Level A $77,551 to $104,464 p.a., Level B $109,963 to $130,580 p.a.).
