Job Details

The successful applicant, as part of the Global Intermediates Technology team, will provide support as the primary customer technical contact for existing and new "oxo" alcohols, higher olefins, and neo acids, with a focus on coatings applications.

Primary support will be for products/raw materials used throughout the entire value chain within the coatings industry.

The AD Engineer or Scientist will assist customers in optimising current formulations, identifying unmet technical needs of existing products and defining new products that could provide solutions within the coatings industry.

The AD Engineer or Scientist must work with a variety of researchers using advanced analytical techniques to characterise our products and their derivatives to understand the function(s) of various structures in the end use application.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As a key market facing technology team member, work closely with the Market Development team to:
  • Identify new application areas
  • Lead technical programs to support market introduction of alcohols and acids
  • Travel to existing and potential customers to identify and support opportunities
  • Advise and develop performance/characterisation techniques to support customer development
  • Travel to and establish presence at key industry conferences
  • Train, mentor, and develop skills of other market facing technology and commercial team members
  • Liaise with business line and manufacturing functions on product sourcing and quality issues including evaluation of alternative raw materials and evaluation of impact on product performance of changes in process conditions.
  • Provide information to and advise customers on safety, health and environmental issues, as well as regulatory matters associated with use of product

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • abut ten years of relevant work experience in coatings industry
  • Good understanding of chemistry, properties and applications of coatings industry
  • Degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or similar discipline with industry experience listed above
  • Good understanding of physical and chemical analytical techniques
  • Understanding of product safety and regulatory matters (e.g. classification, labelling)
  • Ability to work with Technical, Sales and Marketing resources to acquire knowledge of the product portfolio, manufacturing process and product applications to assist in development efforts

Experience within the following areas:

  • Emulsion Polymerisation techniques and application into various industries
  • Film Formation based on various chemistries (acrylates, alkyds, etc.)
  • Different coating technologies (water/solvent based, reactive, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20-40% of time including domestic and international locations
