Job Details

Description

Applications are invited for a CNRS postdoctoral position in mathematics at IHES (France), beginning September 2019, to be funded by the ERC Starting Grant "Discrete Groups and Geometric Structures". The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible renewal for a second year.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong research potential, interested in investigating discrete subgroups of Lie groups acting on various geometric spaces. Particular attention will be paid to candidates who already have some experience working on one of the following topics: discrete subgroups of Lie groups, Teichmüller or Higher Teichmüller theory, dynamics on character varieties, geometric structures on manifolds (hyperbolic geometry, convex projective geometry, Lorentzian or more generally pseudo-Riemannian geometry, etc.).

Contract Details

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of Laboratoire Alexander Grothendieck — a CNRS research unit at IHES. The IHES provides excellent research conditions, in a quiet environment inside the very active Paris region. The postdoctoral researcher will have access to funding for travel and visitors. In addition to a monthly gross salary of approx. 2,590 euros, he/she will benefit from free family housing in a furnished apartment at the IHES residence, as well as free lunch at the IHES restaurant.

Applications should be submitted online and include the duly completed application form, a CV, a list of publications, a research statement describing both past research and future research plans (max. 5 pages), as well as 2 or 3 letters of recommendation
