The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) invites applications for position in Small Animal Surgery. This position will be at the assistant (tenure track) or associate professor (tenure track or with tenure) ranks with an expectation of 20% of the appointment devoted to research and the remainder of the assignment focused on clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of undergraduate students and interns.  UCVM employs a distributed veterinary teaching hospital and clinical rotation teaching will occur in partner specialty practices.   

Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) and advanced clinical training in small animal surgery, with board certification or eligibility (ACVS or ECVS). A graduate degree is considered an asset.  The applicant must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

Applicants at the assistant professor level must be able to demonstrate publications in the field of veterinary surgery with evidence of successful undergraduate teaching. Applicants at the associate professor level must provide evidence of an established, externally funded research program, a strong publication record, and evidence of successful teaching and graduate student supervision.

UCVM has approximately 70 faculty members, 130 staff, 125 DVM students, 110 graduate students, 25 post-doctoral fellows, and 15 advanced clinical trainees. UCVM’s DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 30-32 students per year. The program is an integrated core-elective program, with enhanced educational opportunities in defined areas that combine discipline-based courses with extensive on-campus and off-campus experiential learning. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
