The University of Southampton in partnership with The ai Corporation Ltd seek to appoint an individual with a suitable background as an Associate on a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Project to work on a class of machine learning algorithms for detecting fraudulent credit card transactions.

The ai Corporation creates unique solutions that include “state of the art” machine-learning technology to assist complex decision making by humans. Founded in 1998, ai has a long and exciting heritage as one of the world's leading companies in fraud and risk management. The business is growing rapidly having recently acquired a payment gateway and card issuing platform giving the customer the benefit of ai powered payments.

This project aims to push the frontiers of state-of-the-art, exploiting recent research in outlier modelling developed at the University's Schools of Electronics and Computer Science (Professor Mahesan Niranjan), and Mathematics (Professor Jacek Brodzki), in a real-world commercial setting. 

The successful KTP Associate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a quantitative discipline, for example: Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics and Statistics, or, in exceptional circumstances a directly relevant Masters' degree. a PhD in Machine Learning is desirable.

This is a fixed term post, funded for 24 months, and will be based at the company's site in Guildford, moving to a purpose-built site in Woking in the New Year. This post will be primarily be based in Guildford/Woking approximately 80% of the time, with 20% at Highfield Campus in Southampton.
