The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a research institute of the University of Queensland (UQ), supported by the Queensland Government (Department of Agriculture and Fisheries).

QAAFI's vision is to improve the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of tropical and subtropical food, fibre and agribusiness industries.

The Centre for Animal Science delivers world-class research to Australia's animal industries. We aim to increase on-farm productivity and sustainability in the northern Australian beef industry and across the livestock industries, including pigs and poultry.

We have major programs and capability in genetics and genomics; breeding and reproductive capability of northern Australian cattle breeds; welfare and ethics; pest and disease control through improved detection; monitoring and vaccine technologies; nutrition; metabolism and growth

The role

This high-level role presents an opportunity for an outstanding individual to lead the Centre for Animal Science and to continue to build on the existing global reputation for Animal science research. The role's primary focus is the strategic direction of the Centre and the responsibilities include research leadership, guidance and stewardship of research theme leaders and working with the Institute Director and the other Centre Directors to establish strategic directions and priorities for the Institute as well as the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The person

We are looking for a leader who will have a passion and energy to continue to grow the Centre.  You must be dedicated to excellence and leadership of the Centre, ensuring skills and capabilities evolve to keep pace with emerging knowledge needs.

You will engage effectively beyond the Centre; within QAAFI, the University and with key stakeholders nationally and internationally. Effective engagement with Government bodies and Industry is essential.

You will have an international reputation in the field of animal science and demonstrated experience in a management role. An ability to secure funding in a University environment and/or the public or private sector is essential.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 5 years at Academic level E. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
