Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have a background in Information Management?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research-intensive Universities?

We are seeking to appoint a talented and highly motivated research fellow to join the new N8 Policing Research Partnership Catalyst project entitled ‘Innovation and the Application of Knowledge for More Effective Policing'. This has been established with funding from the Office for Students (previously HEFCE) and policing partners. The successful candidate will work with the strand of the project that focuses on Data Analytics. The strand supports the delivery of training, undertakes research and supports collaboration and knowledge exchange between policing colleagues and academics in the area of data science and data analytics.Understanding where and when resources should be deployed is essential to the design of effective crime reduction strategies.

The last 15 years has seen a revolution in the use of data and analytics capable of informing such decisions. A major component of this has been the development of ‘predictive policing analytics' - computational techniques that seek to proactively identify areas at increased risk of crime in the near future, and where the allocation of operational policing and crime reduction resources might lower the potential for victimisation. Working in conjunction with the Data Analytics strand of the £7 million HEFCE funded N8 Police Research Partnership, the successful applicant will be involved in the development, implementation and testing of analytics for police resource deployment. These new methods will attempt to forecast emerging crime trends and support policing partners in proactively planning more efficient responses to them. This project has the potential to offer significant impact, and the applicant will be expected to work closely with colleagues in several Policing agencies and their crime reduction partners. In addition, the development of new policing analytics will provide opportunities to contribute meaningfully to international developments in the field of quantitative criminology.

As part of your application, please could you submit copies of your two strongest publications?

These should represent your best work in terms of originality, significance and rigour and both should be published since January 2014. One could be a draft that has been submitted or is close to submission.
