Job Details

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Instruct and support students in a variety of digital design and communication tools (e.g. Sketchup, Revit, Photoshop/gimp; TwinMotion, etc.)
  • Manage the Digital Design Lab (procurement, installation and updating of software and hardware, and managing licencing)
  • Manage the Pixel Lab (3D printing, CNC laser cutting, large format printing)
  • Take responsibility for social media platforms and website
  • Manage the departmental server
  • Assist with additional administrative duties as determined by the HOD.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology (BTech, BAS, BArch) or N Dip(Architectural Technology) with 10 years' experience with specialisation in CAD and 3-D rendering
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit
  • At least three years' experience in working with advanced computer hardware and software, especially virtual reality software used in the design field of the Architectural Professions, as well as architectural systems and -process modelling, in both the academic and practice environments.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Skills in web design, updating the Department's website
  • Good language and communication skills
  • Advanced competence in Sketchup, Photoshop
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Skilled in rapid 3D modelling and manufacturing
  • Passion for exploring new technologies and skills
  • Good people skills
  • Detail-orientated.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Have attended additional courses/conferences in digital communication tools
  • Expertise in BIM
  • Experience/training/interest in virtual reality
  • Knowledge of Lumion, TwinMotion, AutoCAD and energy modelling software
  • Experience in IT infrastructure management.

PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process., The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 460 359 to R 568 612 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University's contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
