Job Details

UWE Bristol is an ambitious university. Together, our people are working hard to advance knowledge, inspire people and transform futures. We are looking for people with the skills and ambition to help us achieve those aims.

It's an exciting time to be joining UWE. Our preparations for Strategy 2030 are underway, and we are making major investments on our key strategic priority area: outstanding learning. The Academic Practice Directorate (APD) works across the University to engage and support our academic communities in the design and delivery of outstanding programmes and outstanding academic practice.

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled academic leader to support the APD's Director (Prof. Elizabeth Cleaver) to develop the work and reach of the APD and to enable it to grow as a centre of excellence. The role holder will lead the University's portfolio of digital education developments, activities and projects, working in partnership with UWE's Information Technology Service, Business Intelligence team, Strategic Programmes Office and faculty-based colleagues.

You will be an established leader in the field of digital and technology-enhanced learning in higher education, ready to take the next step in your career. You will have extensive team and project leadership experience with a proven ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop cross-institutional teams. While a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of technologies used in learning and teaching is essential, you will also have excellent understanding of pedagogic and quality assurance approaches and processes in University settings and the benefits and opportunities that digital tools and platforms can bring.

Qualifications

• A first degree and relevant higher degree
• Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and/or another relevant professional membership e.g. CMALT

Please see the attached full job description and person specification for more information on the role and its requirements.

In addition to progressive pay rates we offer a wide range of staff benefits which includes a holiday allowance of 35 days as well as up to 12.5 bank holiday/closure days per year, flexible working, excellent defined benefit pension schemes and a range of family friendly policies.

We also have a generous relocation package to support qualifying candidates in moving to the area.

We would consider applications from candidates that wish to work part time.

If you would like an informal discussion or have any queries, please contact Elizabeth Cleaver on 0117 32 81568 or email to: Elizabeth.Cleaver@uwe.ac.uk.

We intend to hold longlist Skype interviews on the afternoon of the 11th December 2018. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview at UWE's Frenchay Campus on 11th January 2019.

We are a well-established university, with over 30,000 students, 250,000 alumni and 3,600 staff. Students come to study with us from all over the UK, as well as from 140 different countries around the world, making this a diverse and interesting place to come and study. We achieved 89% overall student satisfaction in the National Student Satisfaction survey in 2018, this excellent result puts us as the top university in the South West and in 7th place nationally. In 2018 we were placed in the Guardian's Top 40 Universities in the UK and we achieved TEF Gold status.

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give our students access to everything they need to succeed - with £300m being spent on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation between now and 2020 to enhance our offer even further. Frenchay campus is within close proximity to excellent motorway links and within walking distance of two train stations, making UWE Frenchay Campus the ideal place to work for those wishing to commute to Bristol.

Bristol itself is a hub of social and cultural activity. A place with a strong, creative and fiercely independent mindset. A city with a buzzing music scene, great restaurants and interesting business ventures. It's not surprising Bristol is consistently named as one of the best places to live and work in the UK.

UWE is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment. We believe this can be achieved through attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse range of staff from many different backgrounds who share our ambition to be a university recognised for the success and impact of our practice-oriented programmes; our strong industry networks and our inclusive global outlook.
