Details

Postdoctoral position is available at the Paris Cardiovascular research Center of the INSERM (The French Institute for Health, Basic and Medical Research), Paris, France, to study the genetic basis of Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) and Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD).

Genetic basis of 2 cardiovascular diseases predominant in women

FMD is a non-atherosclerotic vascular diseaseleading to arterial stenosis, aneurysm and dissection. The renal and cerebrovascular arteries are most commonly involved and FMD is often diagnosed after a longstanding resistant hypertension or a stroke event. FMD patients are 80-90% premenopausal women. Our group is leading the genetic investigation thanks to the largest existing cohort of FMD patientsfollowed-up at the European Hospital Georges Pompidou with DNA available. Recently, a clinical link was provided between FMD and SCAD, a rare cause of acute myocardial infarctus and we have also collected DNA for ~500 patients through a national recruitment. We have recently established a common genetic cause for FMD and SCAD and we are using GWAS and exome sequencing followed by functional genomics analyses to decipher the physiopathology of FMD and SCAD.

Mission

An important component of this project will be

  1. analyzing GWAS for FMD and SCAD case control sets
  2. performing imputation and computationally based annotation using large reference panels
  3. integrating omics and eQTL dataests, either publically available or generated in house to prioritize loci and genes to become relevant for vascular integrity in the absence of atherosclerosis and 4) study potential interactions with gene risk (e.g sex, hormone hypersensitivity and smoking).

Requirements

The position requires experience using relevant tools for GWAS, especially using R and PLINK packages, and knowledge of programming at large to handle large scale datasets. The post-holder must have excellent organizational and communication skills, and a good and publication track, relevant to GWAS and genetics of complex diseases.

Environment

In addition to spend an exciting time in the city of Paris, The PARCC-INSERM is a world-class environment for basic and translational research and training focused on cardiovascular disease. Our team is ERC-Funded, one of the most competitive funding schemes of the European Commission, and by the INSERM and other national bodies. The national evaluation scheme (HCERES) and INSERM evaluated the team and ranked it among a shortlist of outstanding groups of research in the country. We use genetics and functional genomics to decipher the physiopathology of several rare and common, including neglected vascular diseases in an interdisciplinary and friendly research group.
