Job Details

The role:

Are you a proven leader in public, patient and stakeholder engagement? Do you have detailed experience of programme development, oversight and implementation? Can you develop the latest digital innovations to engage and empower patients, carers and the public?

As Head of Public Engagement and Involvement, you will lead on embedding the voice of patients, carers and the wider public and ensuring their active involvement across the work of the Clinical Research Network, which includes healthcare, social care and public health. Whilst managing programmes of work you will adopt an innovative approach and have the ability to think laterally about the way we reach out to engage and involve people in the work of research delivery.

You will be a proven leader with a record of delivery and will have specialist expertise, knowledge and professional credibility in the area of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE). As a skilful and engaging communicator you will have a flair for the use of a wide range of media including digital channels.

Supported by a geographically dispersed team, you will lead projects associated with the strategic requirements of the Clinical Research Network (CRN). This includes digital channels for public engagement, enabling patients, carers and the general public to identify opportunities to take part in healthcare research and find out more about research.

Key elements of this role are leading and participating in regional and national patient and public involvement, events, developing partnerships with stakeholders, sharing best practice and integrating this knowledge throughout the CRN and the wider NIHR. Planning and prioritising competing demands and acting as a thought leader for PPIE in the organisation, you will establish and develop a wide professional network both within and outside the NIHR and work closely with our community, charity and industry partners. You will be skilled in applying the latest techniques for securing both breadth and the depth of patient involvement and engagement so that the patient and public voice is central to our work.
