School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences
The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. The School has modern research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure. The School includes over 50 academic staff, who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
The role
The successful appointee will work within an established research group investigating novel clamp technology to produce subunit vaccines based on viral fusion proteins. The research to be carried out involves rational design and molecular cloning of subunit vaccines based on the influenza hemagglutinin protein, protein expression and purification using a eukaryotic CHO cell line, in vitro protein characterisation, animal immunizations and analysis of immune responses. The candidate will be required to publish scholarship papers, have some involvement in Honours or Higher Degree by Research Supervision within the group, as well as take on service roles where required.
The person
Applicants must hold a PhD in the area of Molecular Biology, Immunology or Virology, as well as demonstrated expert knowledge in these areas. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in animal handling and research involving animals. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career, good general research skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $83,295 - $89,285 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $97,456 - $104,464 p.a.).
