Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to generate data on the interactions between the immune and inflammatory system and platelets and explore how this plays a role in deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Current therapeutic modalities of DVT include inhibition of blood coagulation factors that inevitably result in bleeding complication in a proportion of patients. We aim at identification of novel targets and develop new approaches to prevent DVT safely and efficiently by targeting the immune system, which is not directly implicated in the mechanisms of normal bleeding arrest and therefore is unlikely to provoke bleeding. The successful candidate for this position is expected to obtain results of highest topscientific quality thus both expanding fundamental knowledge about mechanisms of thrombosis and preparing basis for future clinical studies and trials implementing newly discovered approaches for DVT prophylaxis.

Person Specification

  • PhD level degree in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, cardiovascular, metabolism or similar fields
  • Experience in in vivo murine experimental models would be advantageous
  • Strong ability to design and perform high quality experiments and to analyse and interpret data correctly
  • High level analytical capability
  • Publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals related to the above fields
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including written and presentational)
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
