Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to contribute to the EPSRC-funded “SPHERE Next Steps” Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration and to undertake applied research on reliable, energy-efficient networking and mobility for IoT devices. The post-holder will become a member of a very large multidisciplinary research group, but the role will specifically focus on:
  • Research, protocol design, prototyping and optimization for IoT mesh networking protocols, with emphasis on IEEE802.15.4, TSCH, 6LoWPAN, RPL, CoAP, and BLE.
  • The development of new and maintenance of existing networked embedded software used by SPHERE's in-house designed wearable device, environmental sensor and accompanying gateway.
  • Firmware development using the Contiki-NG open source, embedded operating system for the IoT.

The post-holder will join the Digital Health Engineering research group and will have access to state-of-the-art test and measurement equipment, including access to the "SPHERE house" which is a fully-furnished home where we trial technology with residents.

This post is available immediately and is offered on a full-time, open ended basis with funding up to 30 September 2021.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place within 1 month of the closing date.
