Job Purpose

The postholder will undertake research in the area of 3D printed passive microwave circuits with emphasis toward terahertz frequencies. The large-scale project is funded by EPSRC and addresses the understanding, design, construction and testing of a range of circuits for internal research or with external collaborators.

The role will create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities in the EPSRC grant which has a specific list of objectives and these need to be fulfilled by the research fellow. There is a set of technical objectives which includes the design of microwave circuits ready for manufacture by 3D printing. The role also requires liaising with 3D printing companies for the efficient and economical manufacture of the circuits. Once the circuits are delivered the requirement is to test and write reports and publications on the results.

In addition the role requires discussion with microwave companies on their requirements and presenting results and other inform. This includes presenting results at conferences and workshops as well as internally to students, staff and visitors. The research fellow is expected to help with the day to day running of the laboratories as well as advising other group member including PhD students. Also, to help develop bids for funding and also disseminate information to help with impact of the work.

 

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of engineering or related science and normally, a higher degree relevant to microwave engineering or equivalent qualifications
  • Have, or expect soon to obtain, a PhD degree in electronic engineering or physical sciences
  • Provable experience working in design of passive microwave circuits.
  • Demonstrable high level analytical capability
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant microwave models, techniques and methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Demonstrable ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Demonstrable understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Experience with full wave electromagnetic CAD software is essential.
