The Faculty of Veterinary Science invites applications from persons complying with the relevant requirements for the position of Head of Student Administration. The Faculty, as the only faculty of its kind in the country, has a unique responsibility in training all veterinarians and veterinary nurses as well as conducting relevant and high impact research.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for the strategic management of all aspects of student administration in the Faculty. This will include, but is not restricted to:

  • Ensuring that all administrative matters affecting and influencing the students' studies at the Faculty at the University of Pretoria are effectively and efficiently managed;
  • Planning and organisation of orientation of new students (undergraduate and postgraduate);
  • Managing all processes within student administration (undergraduate and postgraduate) e.g. (but not limited to) applications, selection, registration, examination, results and graduation ceremonies;
  • Ensuring that UP's reputation is constantly improved through excellent and innovative client service interactions, relating to all student administrative processes, including time tables, financial aid, accommodation placement, front line functions and publications;
  • Acting as secretary of the faculty board meetings;
  • Providing assistance to applicable faculty committees;
  • Compiling the yearbook;
  • Managing and co-ordinating the meetings related to student administration including activities of the Faculty's Teaching/Learning and the Postgraduate Committees;
  • Implementing Teaching and Learning Committee and Postgraduate Committee decisions;
  • Strategic management of the Division's human resources, stakeholder management and budget control.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Applicable degree or tertiary qualification;
  • Five to eight years' experience that includes:           
    • Advanced knowledge of all student administration processes and procedures;
    • Managerial or supervisory experience in academic/student administration;
    • Managing formal meetings;
    • Advanced computer skills in MS Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of financial and human resources management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills;
  • Decision making and prioritising abilities;
  • Skilled in the use of electronic media;
  • Organisational skills;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Outstanding ability to work under pressure and function independently;
  • Prepared to work overtime and/or weekends when required with own transport.

 

Added Advantages and Preferences:

  • Management training programme or postgraduate qualification;
  • Experience in:
    • The use of PeopleSoft Student Centre (student administration system);
    • Student accounts, general financial and budgeting management;
    • Project management and curriculum re-structuring regulations;
    • The use of an electronic student database;
    • Staff management.

Further Information:

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
