Post-doctoral Fellowship in Geosciences

The Laboratory of Meteorology Applied to Regional Weather Systems (MASTER) of the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo (IAG / USP) offers an opportunity of Post-doctorate in Atmospheric Sciences linked to the Thematic project "Environmental Governance of the Macrometropole Paulista in the face of Climatic Variability" with scholarship funded by the Sao Paulo Research Foundation -- FAPESP. The registration deadline is January 4, 2019.

The Thematic project is coordinated by Professor Pedro Roberto Jacobi, from USP's Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE), with Professor Edmilson Dias de Freitas as Principal Investigator of the area of interest of this call.

Goals:

The selected Fellow will integrate a project whose objective is to carry out diagnostic and numerical studies on the precipitation regime of Sao Paulo State's urban conglomeration known as Macrometropole Paulista (MP) -- including climatology and prognosis for the scenarios of climate change provided by CMIP 6, to verify the impacts caused by the process of urbanization and other anthropic contributions in the several municipalities of the MP.

Those interested should have a doctorate or equivalent degree and, preferably, training / experience in areas of Meteorology, Physics, Engineering or other related fields, as well as previous proven experience using numerical models for climate or weather forecasting. Preference will be given to candidates with regional modeling knowledge who have used the BRAMS, WRF or RegCM models.

Requirements:

The candidate must present academic competitiveness at the international level confirmed by publications in indexed journals in the subjects of interest of the Project.

The post-doctoral opportunity is open to Brazilians and foreigners. The selected candidate will receive FAPESP Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the amount of BRL 7,373.10 per month and Technical Reserve equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship to meet unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity.
