Organizational Unit Overview
It is the mission of the Department of Internal Medicine, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in internal medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to individuals of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.

The Department of Medicine is a very complex organization. Our specialties include allergy, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general internal medicine, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, oncology, pulmonary medicine and rheumatology. The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full time faculty and 150 support staff members. Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic. Administration of the department provides a management structure that coordinates and supports the activities of a large, complex and heterogeneous organization. The Department of Medicine is a primary contributor to the mission of East Carolina University School of Medicine, which is to provide health care for the citizens of eastern North Carolina, educate primary care physicians to meet the health care needs and to make medical education available to minority and disadvantaged people.

The Division of Neurology has 12 adult neurologists, 3 pediatric neurologists and 5 physician extenders. Our clinical practice offers a variety of services, including MRI, in a relaxed, comfortable setting with 24,000 square feet of office, consultation and treatment areas.

Job Duties
The Chief of the Division of Neurology serves as a leader within the Department of Internal Medicine and is responsible for supervision of leadership of providers within the division encompassing all areas of clinical, educational, and research initiatives and activities.

S/he is also the clinical leader and provider with experience to assess clinical competence and current best practices.

The Chief provides oversight of the Division's support structure such as outpatient and/or outreach clinics and administrative staff.

The Chief is responsible for developing a strategy to develop a residency program in Neurology, along with developing new initiatives in basic and clinical trials research.

Additionally, the Chief is responsible for adherence to all rules and regulations set forth by the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Health.

The Chief works collaboratively with the department's Divisions, School of Medicine leadership, and Vidant Health leadership.

The Chief is expected to develop a partnership with respective leaders in other areas to achieve optimal performance.

Minimum Education/Experience
An awarded degree of MD, DO or equivalent.

Ability to secure a valid unrestricted North Carolina license.

Current valid and renewed (if needed) board certification.
