The University Librarian's Office is responsible for the overall management and development of libraries and learning resources throughout Aga Khan University's (AKU) international campuses. The Office's objective is to facilitate the creation of a network of AKU Libraries which, while maintaining their inpidual specificities, can share resources and services throughout all the campuses. 

While exercising responsibility over all AKU libraries, the University Librarian's Office works in close collaboration with academic units to develop library and information services that cover their specific needs as well as those of AKU as a global learning community. The mandate of this Office also includes management of human resources, budgets, and administrative and technical orientation of all AKU Libraries.

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to assist in the overall management of AKU's Library and learning resources technology and systems.

Specifically, you will be responsible for: 

  • Assisting Systems Librarian in management of all library-specific software and tools across AKU libraries network;
  • Supporting library systems users and resolving day to day issues under guidance from the supervisor; 
  • Working as a member of a team involved in user requirements, solution implementation, and quality assurance;
  • Proactively identifying areas of improvement and taking steps to optimize implementation of this improvement;
  • Continuously discovering, evaluating, and implementing new technologies to maximize efficiency;
  • Participating in the development and management of the library web pages and social media spaces;
  • Liaising with AKU IT department for library-specific software related issues;
  • Contributing to other services as assigned by the supervisor. 

 

Requirements

You should have:

  • A graduate degree in Computer Science or any other relevant field. Work on library related project(s) will be preferred;
  • Minimum two years working experience of information management systems, preferably in a higher education or research environment; 
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art web based information management technologies and familiarity with project planning and management;
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems with strong attention to detail; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international metadata standards and protocols; 
  • Expertise in Microsoft applications, experience of scripting languages, XML, RDBMS, SQL and Web authoring tools;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken;
  • A positive attitude towards learning with ability to work with perse library teams;
  • Ability to take initiatives and suggest out of the box solutions.
