UQ Biological Resources (UQBR) is a UQ organisation responsible for delivering world class services to UQ Researchers involved in research using laboratory animals. 

We are currently advertising for a Senior Animal Technical - Training Coordinator (HEW 6) position based at the Biological Resources Facility at the Translational Research Institute.

 

The role

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the training in animal work and related procedures at the Biological Resources Facility (BRF) at the Translational Research Institute (TRI).

This role is expected to provide significant administrative support and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as development and implementation of best practice in terms of animal welfare, research outcomes and training methodology.

A major component of this position will be the building and implementation of training materials and resources including standard operating procedures, online systems and hands-on training competency frameworks. This will involve working with UQBR facility managers, training and compliance coordinator, research, gnotobiotic and breeding coordinators and material handling personnel to optimise the training of various facility and research personnel.

This position will involve a high level of responsibility and the ability to work independently.

Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position.  Your appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety.  In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.

 

The person

Applicants should possess considerable qualifications and experience in performing advanced technical procedures with research animals (particularly rodents) and providing training in performing work with research animals.

The person must demonstrate a good understanding of laboratory animal care and regulatory requirements and be proficient in using electronic software programs and hardware.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organisational skills are essential.

You may be required to obtain satisfactory medical clearance(s) as part of the criteria for the role. 

 

Vaccinations and Immunisation

It is a condition of employment for this role that if you are required now or in the future, to work or interact in Queensland Health clinical facility; or in an equivalent clinical health facility; or health care role; or will be required to perform work tasks that put you at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease you are required to be immunised against, and remain immunised against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in accordance with the University's Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08).  The employee is required to provide evidence of immunisation against VPDs. 

 

Remuneration

We are currently advertising for a full time, fixed term Maternity leave position for 10 months (end date 02.12.2019) at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $75,957 - $81,714 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $83,172 - $89,477 p.a.).
