Ranked in the top two percent of universities worldwide and in the top ten research universities in Australia, the University of Tasmania has a strong Tasmanian identity which underpins teaching and research that is international in scope, vision, and standards.  The closeness of the University's relationship with Tasmania defines us as an institution, with our strength and character generated by the interplay between serving our community and state and being globally relevant and connected.

The University is seeking to appoint an accomplished academic leader as the inaugural Head of the School of Creative Arts and Media (CAM) within the College of Arts, Law and Education.

The School of Creative Arts and Media (CAM) is a vibrant community of academic and creative professionals committed to fostering the creativity, knowledge and skills of learners across a range of undergraduate and graduate coursework degrees and supervision at the MA (Research) and PhD levels. Staff are leading practitioners and researchers in programs in Art, Music, Theatre and Media in Australia and internationally. They contribute to state and national policy, public debates, exhibitions of artistic significance and lead creative arts and media projects both locally and globally. The School is accommodated in central Hobart, with sites across an ‘arts precinct' including the Conservatorium of Music's new state-of-the-art Hedberg facility, an extensive Art program at historic Hunter St Wharf, and the innovative co-location of Media with industry partners at Salamanca Place; and in Launceston, where Art and Theatre are housed at the historic Inveresk tramways, and part of a major new campus.

The Head of School of Creative Arts and Media is a key strategic role providing leadership across all streams of activity. The successful candidate will bring academic leadership experience to successfully manage research, teaching and industry engagement whilst fostering a culture of high performance and collegiality, and translating strategy to outcomes. Reporting to the Executive Dean and PVC of the College, the Head is a member of the College Leadership Team and plays a key role in determining and managing the strategic priorities of the College and the contribution of the School to achieving these.  Based in Hobart, the position will also spend time at the University's Launceston campus.
