Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Cardiovascular Diseases (Stellenbosch University's Main Campus)

Immune activation and CVD onset in HIV+ individuals

A postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Department of Physiological Sciences (Faculty of Science) at Stellenbosch University for a motivated candidate who is interested in a project focusing on links between HIV and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) onset.  The research project forms part of an ongoing study on HIV-positive individuals in the Worcester region and especially focuses on the contribution of persistent immune activation to increased CVD risk in this population. The successful candidate will be working in the Cardio-Metabolic Research Group (CMRG) that is directed by Professor Faadiel Essop.  Information on the CMRG can be found on the Departmental website at https://www.cardiometabolicresearchgroup.com/.

Applicants who have recently completed a PhD degree in the fields of Physiology, Biochemistry or related disciplines can apply for this Postdoctoral Fellowship. Experience in the following research methodologies, i.e. human studies, flow cytometry, immunological research techniques is a recommendation.  The tax-free Fellowship is tenable for nine months and the proposed starting date for the fellowship is the 1st February 2019.  Please note that postdoctoral fellows are not appointed as employees and are therefore not eligible for employee benefits
