Summary

The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. It comprises of five major operational units: Epidemiology & biostatistics, Health policy & management, Population & reproductive health, Environmental & Occupational health and Injuries, and Non-communicable diseases & mental health.

‘MultiTex RCT - Multifaceted intervention package for protection against cotton dust exposure among textile workers - a cluster randomized controlled trial' aims to determine the effectiveness of an occupational health intervention for reducing cotton dust levels in textile mills and improving the respiratory health of workers. This research project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and will be implemented in collaboration with the Imperial College London over a period of three years.

Responsibilities 

You will be responsible for:

  • corresponding and communicating with relevant local or international stakeholders and meeting with mill managers and representatives
  • supporting team to build rapport with textile mill managers and relevant stakeholders for smooth implementation of the trial
  • implementing the intervention package and developing and conducting occupational health and safety training sessions/material 
  • measuring the cotton dust levels in textile mills according to the study protocol
  • maintaining inventory; and regular maintenance/calibration of equipment
  • making regular visits to the textile mills and ensuring that dust measurements are being carried out according to study protocol and timeline
  • maintaining record of the occupational health component of the trial
  • training and supervising field staff and addressing day to day issues to PI or designee.

 

Requirements

You should have:

  • Graduate degree, however, Masters in Occupational Health, Environmental Sciences or equivalent; or relevant qualification in Industrial Hygiene will be preferred
  • one to two years' of experience in occupational health related research work 
  • experience of occupational health exposure assessment and training will be an added advantage
  • ability to conduct occupational health training for industrial workers and managers
  • ability to undertake exposure assessment in industry 
  • excellent verbal and written command on English language
  • good analytical skills, critical thinking & reasoning skills
  • strategic planning, quality assurance, audit & monitoring skills 
  • good management and organizational skills
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and ability to work in teams   
  • proficiency in relevant computer skills  
  • command over any local language will be an added advantage
  • willingness to work at flexible timings, according to study requirements.
