Job Purpose

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of research activities within the Scar Free Foundation Centre for Conflict Wound Research (CfCWR), specifically a study of the response of scarred skin to laser therapy. The project will characterise the change in cell populations in the scar after laser therapy, focussing on immune cells, fibroblast sub-types and senescent cells in order to understand the criteria for successful removal of scar tissue and the processes involved. The CfCWR is a new centre directed by Prof Naiem Moiemen, the head burns surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth hospital Birmingham. This project will involve close collaboration with Swansea burns centre and the Burns centre in Galveston, Texas, USA.

Person Specification

  • First degree in a life science and a PhD higher degree in cell biology or immunology
  • High level analytical capabilityand experience with clinical research
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones, including immunohistochemistry, tissue culture, western blotting, molecular biology methods
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes, including HTA and GCP requirements

Closing Date: 5 Feb 2019

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £30,395 to £39,609. With potential progression once in post to £42,036 a year.
