Dalhousie University invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Nursing and Assistant Dean, Faculty of Health, with the appointment expected to take effect July 1, 2019 or soon thereafter.  The associated academic appointment is expected to be tenure stream at the rank of Associate or Full Professor depending on qualifications.

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in nursing or a relevant discipline and be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in research and academic administrative leadership, and management in nursing with experience in ensuring high quality educational programs, vigorous and creative research, and scholarship. The position of Director/Assistant Dean will promote excellence in research, education, and professional activity and is responsible for both fiscal and human resources administration. Success in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders internal and external to the University is essential. Teaching achievement, an externally funded research program, and/or a substantial contribution to nursing through scholarship that advances the discipline of nursing is essential. Successful candidates may pursue a program of funded research when negotiated and approved by the Dean.  Experience in a previous academic leadership position in a School/Faculty of Nursing with a graduate education program is desirable, as is interest in and experience with developing inter-professional collaboration and interdisciplinary research initiatives, and as is a deep appreciation for and interest in supporting diversity and inclusion.  Excellent conflict resolution skills are also highly desirable.

 

The Director/Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Health and provides academic, research and administrative leadership in accordance with the principles of academic governance and is responsible for administrative and financial matters.
