Job Purpose

To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of study within a discipline in line with the School's learning and teaching strategy. Specifically, the post-holder will take principal responsibility for the practical elements of the Language Literacies and Dyslexia distance education programme, and work with the programme lead in delivering the programme. A central requirement of this post is to support the assessment associated with programme, in particular the formative and summative assessment of students' practical AMBDA (Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association) components of the LLD programme. This will mean that the workload is likely to be more intensive in April / May and August / September. The post holder will need to hold accreditation from the British Dyslexia Association. 

Main duties 

Learning and Teaching 
• teach and examine courses at a range of levels (undergraduates, postgraduates and CPD students), through lectures, seminars, distance learning and supervision, specifically in the LLD programme 
• undertake the full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining to ensure that student progress is monitored and reported in line with School procedures 
• supervise dissertation students within the Department of Disability Inclusion and Special Needs 
• contribute to leading curriculum development and/or renewal whilst developing and managing approaches to teaching and learning that are innovative to the subject area or institution, particularly by bringing insights from current practice within the profession 
• carry out course content and material reviews, updating as required 
• advise others on aspects of learning, teaching and assessment 
• plan and review own teaching approach 
• advance the practice of teaching in their modules and within the school, and play an important role in admissions and student academic support 
• frequently update their own subject expertise, and undertake personal professional development in teaching, including self-reflection on own teaching, using student and peer review feedback, to enhance own teaching and learning processes 
• ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes 
• extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching and advising colleagues 
• experience and achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity that enhances the student experience or employability 


Management/Administration 
• contribute to the administration/management of teaching across the Department/School 
• advise on personal development of colleagues and students 
• make a major contribution to some administrative activities within the University (e.g. appeals panels, working groups) 
• manage enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities that are of manifest benefit to the College and University


Person Specification

• Masters level qualifications in an area relevant to the discipline of LLD 
• Hold accreditation from the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA, preferably at all levels, but most importantly primary and secondary) 
• Extensive experience of undertaking formative and summative assessment of student work 
• Extensive teaching experience within subject specialism 
• Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning 
• Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels
