Mettalurgist - various projects

Role Summary / Purpose
FFor the European Technology Centre of Excellence, which is located near Leuven, they are looking for a Metallurgist to conduct root cause analysis on metallurgical failures and corrosion mechanism assessments.

These metallurgical investigations apply to samples from the water and process treatment industries, such as boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, petroleum refineries, reverse osmosis membranes, and this for customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Essential Responsibilities
The metallurgist is responsible for conducting metallurgical failure analyses. He/she gathers necessary process information, decides on required analytical information (cooperation with other departments in the lab (organic analyses, microbiological examinations,…). Based on this information a concise analytical report is written. This function includes operation of the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM-EDXA) to support the metallurgical examinations.
The Technology centre assists product application teams in EMEA in design and development of innovative lab/pilot scale simulation units. The engineer will take ownership of such projects (planning, execution, reporting).

Required qualifications
* Master degree in metallurgical engineering or equivalent by experience
* Experience of minimum 3 years in a similar role
* IT: general pc-software
* Fluency in English, knowledge of Dutch is surplus
* Pro-active behaviour & professional reporting to customers
* Excellent communication skills towards all levels within the organization
* Problem solving capability
* Capable of driving the implementation of projects and programs
* Self-starter

Desired Characteristics
* Ability to write comprehensive reports in English
* Experience with failure analyses and corrosion analyses
* Knowledge of industrial water treatment processes is an advantage
