Job Details
Project description
The objective of our research is gaining unprecedented insight into the real-time electronic and nuclear dynamics of molecular transformations and phase transitions with advanced new methodologies and a multi-faceted approach to the investigation. The project exploits our pioneering achievements in attosecond soft X-ray spectroscopy (XAFS) to investigate the charge excitation and coupling to the lattice in real time. The purpose of this position is the theoretical description and investigation of exciton dynamics, electronic and structural phase-transitions, and electron phonon coupling in systems such as TMDCs and organic semiconductors.
Environment
The applicant will join our group which consists of a highly motivated and dynamic team of international scientists with state-of-the art support. Specifically, the successful applicant will join our attosecond soft x-ray team and draw from a strong network of international theory collaborators and groups at ICFO. We are also embedded in several prominent national, European and international networks and collaborations, which ensures a vibrant and stimulating research environment and prominent exposure.
Position
The postdoctoral position is fully funded through an European Research Council (ERC) Grant and we seek a highly motivated candidate who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in the field of Attosecond Physics and Ultrafast Condensed Matter Science. The position in our team is available immediately and we will provide a stimulating environment to perform research on the cutting edge of both experiment and theory.
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in physics.
Experience with some density functional theory, x-ray absorption and molecular dynamics software is required and experience with machine learning is beneficial.
The candidate should be fluent in English, have a diligent work ethics and interested in cross disciplinary work between experimentalists and theorists.
No restrictions of citizenship or gender apply to the fellowship.
The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to 2 years with possible extension.
The formal application should be submitted online through the link below.
Suitable candidates are requested to submit:
- Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
- Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
- The contact e-mail of two potential referees.
Candidates should be willing to be contacted by phone during the selection process.
Candidates may contact: jobs@icfo.eu for informal enquiries regarding the application, as well as address scientific enquiries to jens.biegert@icfo.eu
