Job Details
Data Market Services will support data-centric European small and medium businesses with some of the greatest challenges they currently face a shortage of skills in data science and AI, entrepreneurial opportunities to help them grow, and an understanding of complex legal and standardisation subjects. We will create a portfolio of 100 data businesses, organised in three different cohorts from 2019 to 2021.
Your role in Data Market Services will be mostly concerned with the design and delivery of courses, including online courses, for these 100 businesses, on topics related to data science and AI. In addition, you will be asked to oversee a work package in the project, which covers minor project management duties such as coordination of partners involved in the work package and reporting.
You should have a PhD* or equivalent qualification and work experience in computer science, data science, AI or a related field. You will have to have extensive knowledge of data science and AI concepts, both in breadth (understanding of the current technology landscape, trends, stakeholders, challenges) and in depth (understanding of core algorithms and methods). In addition you will have to be able to translate this knowledge in a training concept and develop training material including syllabi, coursework, and supporting datasets and tool environments.
As part of your role you will be working with an existing team at Southampton to produce online content, including videos, for data science and AI courses.
Candidates who can show evidence of teaching experience, in particular in online environments would be desirable. You should have outstanding time management, organisation, and collaboration skills. The post includes meetings with the project team and industry partners in locations across the UK. It requires fluent English communication skills to engage with colleagues, engage in public outreach, produce publications, present work to different audiences, and produce deliverables for the European Commission.
The post is available for 2 years in the first instance.
For further information please contact Professor Elena Simperl: e.simperl@soton.ac.uk.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
