Job Details

The School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is at the forefront of world-class teaching and research. In a culture of collaboration, discovery and excellence, we pioneer advances in clinical practice and shape the future of healthcare delivery. We provide a first-class environment for cutting edge research and education to prepare tomorrow's physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, nurses, midwives and clinical physiologists to shape and advance practice across the world (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/healthsciences/index.page). We also support the continued professional development of health professionals, through a range of individual modules. We maintained our position as a leading research intensive School of Health Sciences in the UK in our REF 2014 result ranking us joint first for impact, with 94% of our research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.

We wish to enhance our established research and teaching programmes with the appointment of an Associate Professor in Physiotherapy. Our BSc Physiotherapy course currently ranks 3rd in the UK and 1st for research quality (Complete University Guide 2019). We are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated professional to teach in their own specialist area (preference will be given to someone with musculoskeletal or cardio-respiratory physiotherapy expertise) and provide generic teaching across all areas of physiotherapy. You will join an established and highly-skilled teaching team and make a substantial contribution to the continued success of our well-funded research.

There will be opportunities to contribute to ongoing curriculum review, ensuring that our programmes (BSc and MSc Physiotherapy) produce future leaders in clinical physiotherapy, health care, health research and health education. This is a stimulating position that offers the opportunity to develop and lead cross-disciplinary research within the School of Health Sciences, and throughout the University of Southampton. The School has recently amalgamated into the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS), which offers further opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary research. This has also involved the redevelopment of new purpose-built clinical teaching and research facilities at the University campus.
