Job Details

You will join us at an exciting time as we invest in five new posts in computer science: 3 Lectureships and 2 Professorial posts.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate in a joint School of Electronics and Computer Science. Specific areas that we would value, but not limited to, include computer engineering, formal methods, program verification, programming languages, real-time computing, safety-critical systems, adaptive control, cyber-security, human-systems interaction, and pervasive and ubiquitous computing. We are particularly seeking computer scientists with enthusiasm for working together with colleagues across research areas and disciplines.

We welcome applications both from established academics who currently hold an equivalent position, or those with a proven track record of excellence who seek the opportunity to step up to a more senior role where they can build a world leading research team.

The candidate will be part of the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) research Group, an established and friendly Group of around 50 researchers.

To be successful, you will have a PhD in Electronics or Computer Science, a strong publication record, and able to demonstrate delivery of teaching in a manner that meaningfully engages students. It is essential you have a track-record of innovative research within the umbrella of Cyber-Physical Systems and have the ambition to build a strong research group with the support of the School.

The post will be held in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS). Ranked in the top 1% of universities globally and among the UK's top 20 for research, the University of Southampton has an international reputation for its research, teaching and enterprise activities.

We have a supportive culture that values research and education equally and therefore as well as undertaking research and building a team you will also participate in teaching and the management activities. We have a range of staff development programmes and a unique mentoring scheme. There is a great range of benefits that includes a contributory pension scheme; generous holiday entitlement; subsidised health and fitness facilities; cycle to work scheme; a range of discounts.

The University holds an Athena SWAN silver award in recognition of its' continued commitment to improving equality for women in science and engineering. We will give due consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly including part-time and to those who have taken a career break. The University has a generous maternity policy, onsite childcare facilities and employees a childcare vouchers scheme.

The University of Southampton is committed to sustainability and being a globally responsible university and has recently been awarded the Platinum EcoAward.
