Job Details
- Manage the department's petrographic laboratory
- Supervise thin sectioning technician
- Ensure the preparation of high quality petrographic products to project specifications and schedules
- Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment and infrastructure
- Assist students with the use of departmental laboratories and equipment
- Assist with the preparation of standard operating procedures
- Assist with maintenance and operation of the department's research equipment
- Supervise the department's core storage facility and departmental collections
- Administer and control the issuing of fieldwork equipment to students and staff members
- Assist with arranging and execution of departmental field works and excursions
- Ensure adherences to safe working practices
- Source and grow external revenue streams through the optimal usage of departmental research infrastructure
- Perform ad-hoc tasks as prescribed by the Head of Department
Inherent requirements:
- A BSc (Hons) degree in Geology
- Two (2) years' experience in managing a thin sectioning laboratory, preferably in a higher education environment
- Two (2) years' experience in the routine maintenance of petrographic equipment (saws, laps, polishing equipment, petrographic microscopes)
