Job Details

The Information Science Institute (ISI) is a research institute headed by Prof. Dimitri Konstantas at the University of Geneva. Its mission is to engage with industry, public administration and the public in order to lead and shape the international landscape of research in the domain of Information Science. A team of 30 staff members is active in basic and applied research, technology watch, creativity and teaching.

The Role

Your PhD will be part of a European project aimed at urban transport automation, where it is your task to oversee, dictate and execute the cyber security aspects.

  • Investigate the cyber security environment for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and the involved Smart Cities infrastructure.
  • Monitor and impose cyber security by design principles for in- and out- of vehicle services, as part of validating your research on a cyber security framework.
  • Coordinate effort with partners (with in the European project) from various European countries (academic and non-academic)

Your research activities will include: identifying and advising security by design principles in all technical activities; performing security validation and data privacy assessment; integrating appropriate cyber security technologies and service implementation against cyber threats.

  • Analysis the established protective technologies and tools for automated transport and on-demand services and expose their limitations.
  • Investigate the cyber-attacks on in-/out of vehicle services, their connectivity with other devices.
  • Create a cyber security recommendation framework specifically for automotive domain.
  • Evaluate the framework through the outcome of the created framework. This may translate into standardisation recommendations and/or actual software designs.
  • Define data privacy policies in line with the respective user requirements and legal/regulatory requirements.

Requirements 

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Infomation Science or Mathmatics 
  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • M.Sc. in Computer Science, Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • Good interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Linux environments and interest in embedded systems
  • Knowledge of good programming and software development practises
  • Experience with the development of cyber security solutions
  • Understanding of security best practices from an application development standpoint
