Job Details
The MPI-M has opened a position for a Postdoctoral Scientist in the area of global storm-resolving modelling. An ambitious postdoc is sought to help, and in some cases lead, the development and application of the next generation global-storm resolving climate and weather model, ICON. The successful candidate will have considerable latitude in articulating the research applications of these new and state of the art tools, and will contribute to one of only a few efforts worldwide to develop these approaches for both practical applications and advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Experience working with non-hydrostatic atmospheric models, and a deep understanding of atmospheric moist processes is desired.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the further development and application of ICON.
- Disseminate results of research through usual forums (papers, conferences).
- Actively contribute to the vibrant intellectual culture of the institute.
Qualifications/Experience:
- A PhD in atmospheric/climate science or a related field.
- Outstanding computational skills.
- An ability to articulate and pursue a clear and recognizable line of research
Employment Conditions:
- The position is initially offered for 3 years.
- Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions (TVoeD E14), including extensive social security plans. The conditions of employment, including upgrades and duration, follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Sciences and those of the German civil service.

Selection Criteria:
Candidates will be evaluated based on their track record of accomplishment and assessed potential for creative and independent research in the thematic focii articulated above. Because the position is for post-doctoral training, candidates with PhDs received in 2017 or after are preferred.
