Job Details

Do you want to learn how to build and deploy software to the cloud. If so, we have a new position in the Bristol Research Software Engineering Group, working with the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group, to develop cloud-based software for monitoring and reporting the UK's greenhouse gas emissions.

This is a fixed-term one-year position to develop a prototype cloud platform called HUGS. You will work as part of a team of research software engineers and atmospheric chemists to engineer software to; upload sensor data to a global cloud-based object store, run serverless functions to clean and annotate data, elastically deploy simulations to track pollution sources, and develop a Jupyter notebook infrastructure running on Kubernetes to support in-depth data analysis. Programming will be predominantly in Python, in which you will be expected to be proficient.

We will provide training in all necessary cloud technologies. Software will be engineered to a high standard using modern best practice, so experience with version control, testing, documentation and continuous integration and deployment would be beneficial (again, training will be provided). Due to the highly collaborative nature of the project you will be based on-site, with limited opportunity to work from home (e.g. up to one day per week).

For all informal queries please email Christopher.woods@bristol.ac.uk

The closing date for applications will be 23:59 on Thursday 21st February 2019.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
