DEPARTMENT OF COMPREHENSIVE ONLINE EDUCATION SERVICES

PROJECT MANAGER: ONLINE EDUCATION (THREE-YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 6

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance with regards to distance learning programmes that are offered fully online;
  • Provide operational leadership and project management services to support the development and offering of fully online learning programmes;
  • Manage multiple teams consisting of learning designers, content developers, graphic designers, programmers, videographers and subject matter experts;
  • Demonstrate and model best practices in teaching fully online courses;
  • Investigate and explore data and processes relating to the function of the Online Education section and disseminate findings;
  • Actively promote fully online learning programmes and the use of innovative teaching strategies and educational technologies in the University;
  • Manage the expenses of the Online Education section within approved budgets;
  • Benchmark and evaluate the impact of the fully online programmes of the University, both nationally and internationally;
  • Collaborate and liaise with peers at Academic Partnerships and HEPSA.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A relevant master's degree (e.g. in Computer-integrated Education, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development or Academic Development); OR
  • A master's in any academic discipline, with extensive experience in technology integration, online learning or distance learning;
  • A minimum of five years' higher education experience as an academic or academic support staff member;
  • Proven experience in the design, development, implementation and quality assurance of innovative e-learning environments.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Expert knowledge of learning theories and teaching strategies in an e-learning environment;
  • Expert knowledge of higher education policy frameworks as it relates to curriculum design, teaching, learning, assessment, educational technology, open educational resources, distance learning, and student success;
  • Expert level of computer literacy, technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot;
  • Basic knowledge of ICT hardware and network configuration;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Decision-making and leadership capabilities;
  • Expertise in conflict resolution and relationship building;
  • Adaptability and willingness to deal with change;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Organisational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking;
  • Ability to work under pressure and a tolerance for high levels of stress.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • A relevant doctoral degree (e.g. in Computer-integrated Education, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development or Academic Development); OR
  • A doctorate in an academic discipline, with extensive experience in technology integration, online learning or distance learning;
  • Line management experience that includes human resources and financial management;
  • Project management experience;
  • Experience in working in a learning management system and various other authoring tools, online applications, services and products.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
