Duties and responsibilities:

Curriculum Design - Learning Design

  • Liaise with Faculties/Schools/Departments to provide Teaching and Learning Design services.
  • Proactively supports academic staff to pursue continuous curriculum and programme innovation, including alternative forms of delivery including blended and online learning approaches.
  • Proactively markets blended I online learning within the University of the Free State.
  • Support academic staff in the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of blended I online learning initiatives.
  • Support staff in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles in the design of their online course, assessments and course materials.

 

Client Relations - Liaison, Coordination and Communication

  • Deal with queries from academic staff regarding Teaching and Learning design, including the official Learning Management System and other educational technology.
  • Responsible for the effective dissemination of information about Teaching and Learning design, official Learning Management System and other educational technology initiatives to Faculties.
  • Collaborate with appropriate teaching and learning role-players within faculties and CTL.

 

Training And Development - Training

  • Develop training material related to the integration of technology into teaching and learning, including (but not limited to) the use of the Learning Management System and other educational technology.
  • Present workshops regarding teaching with technology, including (but not limited to) the use of the Learning Management System.
  • Incorporate Universal Design for Learning principles into training presented and implement Universal Design for Learning principles in the presentation of training sessions and in the development of training materials.

 

People Management - Supervision

  • Work in close collaboration with the designated Learning Developer.
  • Supervise and allocate tasks and activities to the designated Learning Developer.

 

Research

  • Analysis and interpretation of international and national best practices in teaching and learning; and more specifically blended / online ·learning.
  • Research on the use of emerging and innovative technology in teaching and learning practices.

 

Inherent requirements: 

  • Relevant B-degree or equivalent post-school diploma.
  • Three (3) years' experience in computer-integrated teaching and learning and/or instructional design.
  • Three (3) years' experience in the use of educational technology, including but not limited to the use of a learning management system.

 

Required competencies:  

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Knowledge in lesson or lecture design.
  • Knowledge in use of educational technology.
  • Knowledge in the use of a Learning Management System.
  • Knowledge In training and development.
  • Knowledge In people management.
  • Knowledge in project management.
  • Liaison, communication and collaboration skills.

 

Recommendations: 

  • Postgraduate qualification or diploma in Education or Higher Education focusing on curriculum design and/or the use of educational technology.
  • Two (2) years' experience in research methodology.
  • Two (2) years' experience in project management.
  • Two (2) years' experience in a higher education environment.

 

Assumption of duties:  

1 April 2019
