Job Details
The incumbent will be responsible for providing clinical legal education for final year law students through practical legal training, lectures, simulations and other pedagogical activities. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining client files in the student and civil litigation sections;
- Maintaining own case files;
- Keeping statistics of all civil law cases in the Clinic;
- Attending to civil and criminal cases;
- Advising candidate attorneys;
- Acting as supervising attorney for final year students and candidate attorneys;
- Drafting of pleadings and formal documents and representing clients in court and tribunals;
- Lecturing and assessing students' and candidate attorneys' work;
- Conducting legal research for cases and lecturing;
- Liaising with relevant stakeholders in order to keep abreast with new knowledge and developments in the profession;
- Participating in the yearly weekend workshop to train students;
- Participating in projects from time to time as delegated by the Director.
Minimum Requirements:
- LLB;
- Minimum one year relevant post admission experience in general civil litigation;
- Fluency in English.

- Ability to competently draft legal documents;
- Ability to present a case in court;
- Excellent legal writing and communication skills;
- Ability to work well under pressure, independently and with others;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Excellent computer skills.
Added Advantages and Preferences:
- LLM;
- Lecturing and clinical legal education experience;
- One year of post article experience;
- Fluency in other official languages.
The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
