Job Purposes:

To oversee the provisioning of training to build the capabilities of the University staff to best use the provided ICT services and solutions, more so, ensure that ITS' learning and development activities support current and future IT systems and services. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the designing, delivering, and improving trainings and related courseware, and managing the staff in their Section.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Operational management:
    • Refining and optimising the annual ITS training plan;
    • Managing the design, development and delivery of training programmes and individual classes;
  • People management:
    • Managing the training team;
  • Communication and teamwork:
    • Facilitating communication within the Division and the University on training matters;
  • Strategy and planning:
    • Strategy implementation and planning;
  • Asset and financial management:
    • Managing training equipment and budgets relating to the Training Division;
  • Information security management and governance:
    • Managing the information repository and the implementation of good governance for the Division.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in IT/Education with a specialisation in ICT;
  • Train the Trainer certificate;
  • Five years' knowledge and experience with staff development;
  • Three years' experience in:
    • Managing people;
    • IT training;
    • Adult learning principles, methodologies, and course design techniques;
  • A valid driver licence.

 

Required Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behavioural Attributes):

  • Understanding the various administrative tasks that are associated with training and development;
  • Knowledge of the management of staff;
  • Knowledge of trends in ICT and enterprise and desktop applications;
  • Knowledge of how adults acquire and use knowledge, skills and attitudes;
  • Understanding the individual differences in learning;
  • Knowledge of policy drafting and training need analysis;
  • Knowledge of the various applications and hardware used by the University;
  • Presentation skills, writing skills, and proficiency to train in English;
  • Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Systems, Microsoft software and systems;
  • Training facilitation skills;
  • Active listening skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on motivational skills and positive attitude;
  • The ability to prepare assessment forms and scoring guides to evaluate tasks and skills;
  • The ability to recommend changes based on course evaluation;
  • The ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Very strong customer service orientation;
  • The ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly.

 

Added Advantages and Preferences: 

  • Honours degree in IT/Education with a specialisation in ICT;
  • Master Trainer certificate;
  • ITIL Certification;
  • CoBIT 5 Certification;
  • Seven years' knowledge and experience with staff development;
  • Five years' experience in:
    • Managing people;
    • IT training;
    • Adult learning principles, methodologies, and course design techniques.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
