Desktop and Server Support Specialist / Computing Support Specialist ( Dubai ) - 59190D 

The post holder will play a key role within a committed IT Support Team, initially providing desktop and server support at our campus in Dubai. Over the period of two to three years, the role will transition into a full-time Computing Support Specialist for the School of Computer Science. 
Using their own knowledge and expertise, they will be required to analyse complex desktop PC problems, fileserver and network issues, identify the cause and, using their own judgement, restore function as quickly as possible, in line with University C&IT Standards. This may involve short term measures to bring the equipment back on line, and to follow a longer term plan to fully resolve the issue and design and implement procedures to prevent further failure. 

As the campus develops, the post holder will provide preparation, implementation and specialist support to academic teaching environments and student projects in the School of Computer Science, working flexibly to achieve enhanced technical services and to contribute towards their ongoing maintenance and delivery. 

To undertake project management activities for specific projects within the post holder's specific area of technical expertise, evaluate new technologies, assist in the development and upgrade of C&IT services and support the University-wide C&IT infrastructure, whilst ensuring agreed deadlines are met. 

The post holder must be able to communicate complex IT technical problems and requirements in an understandable fashion to non-technical staff, including Department managers, academic and administrative staff

Additional Information 

The approach to the role and hours of work will be flexible and as required to meet demands that can have a changeable pattern across the year. The working week in Dubai is from Sunday to Thursday, and in the UK is Monday to Friday, so a flexible approach is essential to this role.
