Job Details

The University of Bristol seeks to recruit a Research Associate in City, Nation and Culture (Northern Italy), a full-time post for 9 months. The Research Associate will work on cultural representations of a northern Italian city, as part of Dr Ruth Glynn's AHRC-funded Leadership Fellowship research project on ‘Naples and the Nation: Image, Media and Culture in the Second Republic'. The start date is envisaged as 1 May 2019 and the post will run until 31 January 2020. The Fellowship addresses cultural representations of Naples as a privileged lens for understanding the relationship between city and nation in the Second Republic, and develops a methodology for the study of city-nation relations in other contexts. The work of the Research Associate will provide a comparative perspective by applying the methodology of the project to a northern Italian city. The post will encompass a range of duties, from conference organisation, through collaborative work with A-Level teachers of Italian and participation in events, to authoring, co-authoring and editing of research and impact outputs.

The post is line-managed by Dr Ruth Glynn (Reader in Modern Italian Culture, School of Modern Languages, Faculty of Arts) who is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in contemporary Italian culture, interest or experience in urban humanities and an ability to work collaboratively with academics, teachers and public engagement partners.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Ruth Glynn: r.s.glynn@bristol.ac.uk

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
