Job Details

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Prof. M. Carmen Galan on the chemo-enzymatic synthesis of biologically relevant oligosaccharides and glycan-based probes for diagnostic applications. This is an ERC-funded project and part of a multi-disciplinary research programme.

Experience in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry or extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry is essential. Applicants must have a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Experience on using enzymes for synthesis is desirable. You are expected to have an excellent work ethic and commitment to achieve the project aims, and be open-minded to collaboration with the other scientists of the project consortium. You will be involved in the general running of the laboratory including supervision of undergraduate project students as required and expected to adhere to our strict safety standards.

The successful candidate will be based in the Modern Synthetic Chemistry Laboratories in the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol. Support for synthetic chemistry is second to none, with excellent MS, NMR and X-ray facilities, each supported by dedicated specialist staff. Preparative HPLC is also available.

On-line resources are first class, with most journals and SciFinder and Reaxys databases accessible on-line.

Informal enquiries should be made in the first instance to Prof. M. Carmen Galan (email: m.c.galan@bristol.ac.uk).

The post is available to start as soon as possible for 12 months in the first instance.

Applications should include a cover letter and a curriculum vitae. The candidates should also provide the names of three referees who have been former supervisors on synthetic organic chemistry projects.

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
