5-year fixed-term appointment with benefits

The research chair in Innovative Rehabilitation has a position for a researcher in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. This chair's research articulates with the World Health Organisation's vision to strengthen and promote rehabilitation as a key health strategy for the 21st Century. The chair's research plan aims to position South Africa as a leader in developing effective and innovative rehabilitation services in low- and middle-income countries.

 

 

Duties

  • Designing, managing and executing rehabilition-related research projects;
  • Writing grant applications and contributing towards collaborative funding opportunities;

  • Publishing in peer-reviewed accredited journals;

  • Providing mentorship to junior (undergraduate and masters) students and facilitating the publication of their research;

  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research candidates;

  • Academic administration and grant management;

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (selected topics in research methodology and Physiotherapy).

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy;

  • Master's degree and Doctorate in any field related to Rehabilitation Sciences;

  • Evidence of continuing education in research methodology;

  • Research experience (including statistical analysis) and publication record;

  • Experience as a research supervisor/mentor for undergraduate or postgraduate students;

  • Sound organisational, time management and project management skills;

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills;

  • Forward thinking, highly collegial and collaborative working style;

  • Shows respect and embraces team culture and diversity.

 

Desirable

  • Record of funding applications or successful grants;

  • Evidence that the candidate has the potential to establish research linkages or an established network of research collaborators;

  • Evidence of resourcefulness/mentorship/peer support in an academic context.
