Applications are invited by the University of Bristol, for an ambitious and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of Professor Varinder Aggarwal, in the Department of Chemistry, on a project involving the development of new methodology and its application in the synthesis of complex natural products. The research will be focused around using boron as a key element to orchestrate transformations in a highly selective manner.

The appointee will play a key role in the research group, supporting the supervision of post-graduate students and contributing to the day-to-day management of the research group.

Applicants should have a PhD in any area of organic synthesis (total synthesis, methodology, asymmetric, organometallic). The appointee will be expected to give oral presentations on their work, write internal reports and prepare draft publications. 

 

Critical Experience and Skills:

  • PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or equivalent or have submitted their thesis by the start date.
  • Good chemical knowledge and understanding, particularly in the areas of synthetic organic chemistry and spectroscopy.
  • Highly-skilled practical chemist with experience of applying a range of purification and spectroscopy techniques.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and to plan and organise your own time to achieve a high level of productivity, often working in several areas concurrently.

The appointment is funded for a fixed period of 2 Years. Salary will be within the range: £33,199 - £37,345 per annum. 

Start date: Position is available from 1 April 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of 2 Years.
