Job Purpose

The post holder will be based in the Health Economics Unit (HEU) in the Institute of Health Research. The research fellow will have responsibility for assisting with the economic evaluation within the following trial: 

Short course daily steroid treatment at the time of upper respiratory tract infection in children with nephrotic syndrome (PREDNOS2 study). 

As part of the trial-based evaluation, there will be opportunities to explore further methodological questions surrounding outcome measurement in children. This work is being led by Dr Emma Frew and under her supervision, the post holder will be responsible for assisting on the health economics component of the trial. 

  • To analyse and help interpret the data that has been collected within the PREDNOS2 trial for the economic evaluation
  • To assist with the trial-based economic evaluations as per the trial protocol
  • To identify and exploit, with assistance of Emma Frew, any methodological research questions within the trial data
  • To support the writing of the final trial study report
  • To support the dissemination of research findings, with assistance from Emma Frew, using appropriate and effective media, including publications in leading journals, presentation at conferences, research seminars and meetings
  • To support the Unit/Institute research-related activities and administration, in particular to the Unit Evaluative Spaces research theme
  • To provide support to colleagues and students on applied health economic techniques, particularly within the research area that fits within the PREDNOS2 trial
  • To a limited degree, to support the HEU teaching programme, particularly in relation to the Masters programme in Health Economics & Health Policy and Health Economics & Econometrics
  • To support any other appropriate activities that will help to achieve the objectives of the Health Economics Unit

 


Person Specification 

  • MSc (or equivalent) in Health Economics 
  • Sufficient knowledge of health economics and/or research methods and techniques to work within the PREDNOS2 study
  • Familiarity with relevant software 
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Ability to work to fixed deadlines
  • Ability to work as a member of a team 
  • Fluency in economic evaluation methods
