Job Purpose

The Smart Factory Hub project is a £7.0M European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded initiative to assist regional SMEs in adopting new technologies in the manufacturing sector through equipment demonstrators and knowledge exchange activities. 

There is a need for a Project Support Officer to support the Project Manager with day to day activities and administration within the lifetime of this project as it moves from set-up to full delivery mode. This role will involve duties such as monitoring / collection of project deliverables, monitoring and reviewing financial expenditure and the communication of information, guidance and regulations to project participants. The post holder will also contribute to the planning of events and meetings and assist the Project Manager and Business Engagement Manager in the successful delivery of these activities.

Person Specification 

  • Hold a relevant degree or equivalent relevant working experience. 
  • Proven experience of working within projects funded through public funds (national, regional or EU) 
  • Demonstrably high level of organisation skills 
  • Demonstrable ability to manipulate a large amount of information. 
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex information and presenting this in a clear and easily understandable format 
  • A good level of numeracy and demonstrable knowledge/understanding of accounting and financial practices, methods and systems 
  • Demonstrable ability to summarise complex issues/concepts and present them appropriately for a range of audiences. 
  • Demonstrable ability to plan, manage and prioritise own workload, respond to changing priorities and deliver work to deadlines maintaining a consistently high standard 
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work closely with other people at all levels of seniority, both within and outside the University. 
  • Demonstrable excellent communication skills: oral, written and presentational. 
  • Ability to implement processes and identify where processes or procedures might be improved. 
  • Ability to understand complex regulations and work appropriately to those regulations 

Desirable

  • Experience of working with structural fund programmes, in particular knowledge and experience of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 
  • Experience of working with companies in high-technology sectors 
  • Experience within accountancy or financial environment including demonstrable ability of preparation and monitoring of budgets and ability to cost activities. 
  • Project management methodology qualification such as Prince2 Foundation or equivalent
