Job Details

Background

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to be based at Örebro University's Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS, http://www.oru.se/aass ), which carries out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer science.

Our aim with this new recruitment is to further strengthen our research competence within computer science towards topics in virtual reality, multi-agent systems, serious gaming and human behavior modelling.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skill. The open position relates in particular to the research topic of virtual worlds that acts as a digital twin in which multiple interacting agents (humans, robots, virtual agents) are present. The development should be handled in a data-driven manner where elements of the virtual world (including their dynamics) are described and monitored using sensor data. Application areas of interest are smart production, smart cities and other smart environments. In addition to scientific publications, the candidate is expected to contribute to successful project demonstrations.

In order to meet these goals, the candidate is expected to have a demonstrated research background and international publications within intelligent virtual agents, virtual reality and/or multi-agent systems (or related fields). Experience with heterogeneous sensor configurations is an advantage. A solid theoretical background and excellent programming skills are also very important, as is the ability to develop real-world prototypical systems. It is not necessary to be familiar with the Swedish language, but proficiency in written/spoken English is mandatory.

Eligibility

Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in computer science or in related subject areas. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).

Assessment Criteria

The assessment of the candidates is based on previous research and publication records and the suitability to the topics outlined above, as well as demonstrated programming and deployment skills.

Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, is a requirement.

General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well. Particular importance shall be attached to the qualities enabling the candidate to contribute to the future development of both research and education. A demonstrated ability and desire to pursue an academic career is also of importance.

Information

The position is a position for a fixed term of two years. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
