Introduction

You will be expected to be capable of planning and managing multiple modules of a large software implementation project independently through all phases of system implementation life cycle. The scope of work for the position will be University wide i.e. AKU global operations and expansion; Clinical Information Systems including Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) support and implementation across all the hospitals associated with the University and all its affiliates in any country.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but not limited to;

Lead and coordinate software application development, implementation and maintenance.
  • Lead Business Requirements Analysis activity and participate in study, analysis, and design of systems. S/he should be capable of detailed coding. Should participate in the coding process to a reasonable level.
  • Lead and coordinate the maintenance of applications systems and related documentation.
  • Must have thorough understanding of Data Modelling and Data Analysis Techniques, requirements management techniques and other software development methodologies and should apply them.
  • Learn appropriate software development tools in use at Software Development & Support, IT.

Participate in developing functional / technical goals for assigned area.
  • Assist in providing functional / technical expertise for developing annual goals of the assigned area which are aligned to the overall departmental goals.
  • Assist in developing operational strategies / plans related to the functional / technical area.
  • Assist in implementing the strategies / plans developed.

Independently handle day to day complex operational issues / systems.
  • Contribute in developing new procedures / processes through innovation.
  • Ensure effective and efficient flow of services and resources
  • Identify issues and take decisions in consultation with Manager (where required) in accordance with the policies & procedures.
  • Ensure that monthly indicators are achieved.
  • Coordinate with others / Sections / Departments to deliver results.
  • Ensure compliance with the applicable quality standards of certifying and accredited bodies.


Requirements
  • Possess formal and recognized degree in Computer Science or related disciplines such as Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science/Engineering; MBA in MIS or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven prior experience of programming, as well as systems analysis and design is must.
  • Persons without formally recognized degrees but possessing extensive experience in computer programming, analysis, design and management of software projects would also be eligible for this position.
  • Professional certifications in relevant field will be considered as an added advantage.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of data modelling and analysis techniques, requirement management techniques, and other software development methodologies.
  • Should be able to work closely with users to help define requirements, new applications and procedures.
  • Ability to carry out feasibility studies, cost/benefit analysis, formulation of proposals for system enhancements, development and implementation plan.
  • Must have good project management skills to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to see connections, patterns or trends in the information available and identify the implications and possible consequences of trends or events that draws logical conclusions, providing options and recommendations.
  • Ability to understand issues from the client's perspective and monitors services provided to clients and makes timely adjustments as required.
  • Ability to maintain continuous open and consistent communication with others, supported with relevant data, information, examples and demonstrations.
  • Ability to make straight - forward decisions based on information that is generally clear and adequate, considering the risks and consequences of action and/or decisions.
  • Ability to take action to avoid imminent problems or to capitalize on imminent opportunity and look for ways to achieve greater results or value addition.
  • Ability to consistently achieve established expectations through personal commitment and make adjustments to activities/processes based on feedback.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for work activities and coordinating efforts as well as seek others' input and involvement and listen to their viewpoints. Able to acknowledge the work of others.
  • Ability to identify and accept the need and processes for change by explaining the process, implications and rationale for change to those affected by it.
  • Ability to liaise with others to ensure alignment with the business goals and vision of the organization.
