Job Details

The University of Bristol has recently been awarded funding from UK Research and Innovation to host a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Interactive Artificial Intelligence (IAI). This CDT is a major investment from the UK Government, Industry and the University of Bristol to train the next generation of innovators in human-in-the-loop AI systems. The CDT will train 5 cohorts of (at least) 10 students in responsible, data-driven and knowledge-intensive AI. Students will benefit from a wide range of additional activities, including summer and winter schools, industrial placements, international visits, entrepreneurial training, and outreach and widening participation events.

The CDT Manager will be responsible for managing this major programme and play a central role in supporting doctoral training at an advanced level. S/he will support the Leadership Team with programme management, including the day-to-day operations, e.g., student progress monitoring, student feedback, industrial placement and internships administration, student training, coordinating residentials, summer and winter schools, financial and impact activities. The role involves working in close collaboration with the Centre Director, Professor Peter Flach, the other members of the academic management team, as well as a part-time Centre administrator and a programmer.

This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious team who will push the boundary of innovation in research-led training. The role requires efficient organisational skills, drive, tact and an attention to detail as well as a good appreciation of the challenges of PhD level study. An understanding of artificial intelligence and its importance nationally and globally would be an advantage as would be experience of being involved in managing projects with an advanced computing aspect.

The post is offered on a full-time contract and is available from May 1st 2019 until October 2027.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Centre Director by email to Peter.Flach@bristol.ac.uk .

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
